Peliwe has been working in the area of sustainable urban energy development over the last 4 years. She has been involved in a broad spectrum of projects from supporting local government in improving energy service delivery and promoting energy efficiency to low income households, at the same time building the capacity of local communities with green entrepreneurship skills for the manufacture and selling of hotboxes (an energy efficient cooking material). She has also been involved in developing GHG inventories for South African municipalities and building municipal capacity in this regard. Furthermore, Peliwe coordinates the South African New Buildings Programme in partnership with the C40 Cities which aims at improving energy efficiency and reaching net zero carbon for all new buildings by 2030.
Peliwe is passionate about the implementation of socio-economic development in the face of climate change. Her background is on the Climate Change and Sustainable Development with the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI) at the University of Cape Town.
